Family Autism Information, Advice and Guidance Service

The Family Autism Information, Advice and Guidance Service provides advice and support to families with autistic children under the age of 19 throughout the county.

Update: Family Autism IAG Service Ending on 30 April 2026

Carlisle Mencap would like to inform families, carers, and partner organisations that the Family Autism Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Service will come to an end on 30 April 2026.

This follows a decision by Cumberland Council to cease funding the contract from this date. As a result, Carlisle Mencap will no longer be delivering the Family Autism IAG Service beyond April 2026.

What this means for families currently receiving support

We will continue to provide information, advice and guidance until 30 April 2026.
Our team will contact all families currently receiving support to discuss ongoing needs and available signposting options as the service winds down.

For families making new enquiries

New enquiries can still be made during the transition period; however, the service will not be available after 30 April 2026. Our staff will continue to offer signposting to alternative support where needed.

For referring organisations

Please be aware that:

  • New referrals should not be made for support beyond 2nd March 2026.
  • Organisations are encouraged to consider alternative referral pathways for families who may need autism‑related advice or support after the service ends.

Updated signposting information will be shared as the end date approaches.
