About Carlisle MENCAP
Carlisle MENCAP provides life long person centred support for people with learning disabilities and their families in North Cumbria
During 2008 Carlisle MENCAP celebrated 40 years of serving people with learning disabilities and their families. Local people with disabled children set up the charity in 1968. Today we have over 150 members and provide services for over 300 people with learning disabilities and their families in North Cumbria. We are a local charity our board of trustees are all local people most of whom either have learning disabilities or are family members. Our services include residential respite care for adults at California House, children’s home based respite, community support, young people’s clubs, young people’s holidays, family support workers for young people with autism, holidays, leisure activities and befriending. A major focus at the moment is the Grace Little Centre for disabled children see more about this and all our services when you go to our services section.
If you would like to be a member, (cost £1.25 per person), please contact the office for a membership form. The more members we have, the stronger our voice when we speak on behalf of people with learning disabilities and their families - we encourage everyone with a learning disability and all of their family to join us.
