A £5,000 grant from Cumbria County Council has helped Carlisle Mencap to have a brand new hoist installed at California House which is proving to be a real boon to both staff and service users there.
The existing hoist - designed to safely move our adult service users with mobility issues from their bed via a hoist and rail into the adjacent bathroom at our adult respite centre in Kingstown, north Carlisle - was falling to bits and a replacement was urgently needed.
Costing more than £7,000 these sophisticated and vital pieces of equipment are not cheap, but thankfully a grant of £5,000 from the county council helped us to fund the much-needed replacement and its installation.
Our picture shows California House team members Angela, Nikita and Lynn demonstrating how the new hoist has helped them immeasurably.
