Following this event, Every Life Matters will be hosting ongoing Suicide Safer Copeland Action Group meetings every 2-3 months as an opportunity for people to come together on a regular basis to support each other to campaign, organise activity and take action against suicide. Every Life Matters will work to provide support, training and encouragement to this group going forward.

Suicide is a complex and deeply rooted issue. There is no easy solution. However, every action we take, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction.

Cumbria’s suicide rates have remained stubbornly higher than the national average for many years. In 2020, 70 people died by suicide in our county.

Every suicide is an individual tragedy affecting many people directly and often a large amount of others indirectly. The impact of suicide can be devastating – psychologically, emotionally and economically – for all those affected.

Around three-quarters of people who die by suicide in England are not in contact with any mental health services in the year leading up to their death, meaning suicide prevention needs to be community wide concern. It needs to be everyone’s business. It is friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours and our network of community and voluntary organisations - not just those in mental health services - who have an important part to play in saving lives.

THANK YOU for your support ...
