Sheila Gregory, who retired from Carlisle Mencap in June this year after more than 20 years service with the charity, picked up a prestigious award at the Diverse Cumbria Awards 2021 event at The Halston Hotel in Carlisle.

Sheila won the Lifetime Achievement award and was presented with her trophy by Euan Hutton from Sellafield, who sponsored that particular award.

Since 2016 the Diverse Cumbria Awards have been celebrating and awarding the hard working people, businesses and organisations that have made and are making a huge difference in equality, diversity and inclusion across Cumbria.

The organisers said: "These people stand out because of their dedication and persistence in their pursuit to make Cumbria a welcoming place for everyone. Over the past six years we have seen some incredible nominations come in."
