Round The World Challenge

Carlisle Mencap is urging its service users to take part in a major new national fundraising initiative - Round The World Challenge - starting in January!

Posted Tuesday, 22nd December 2020

Carlisle Mencap is joining forces with the national Mencap society, in partnership with Sport England and The National Lottery, to deliver an exciting new fundraising drive for 2021.

Round the World Challenge aims to support people with a learning disability to get out and get active in a way that is flexible, fun and motivating by turning hours of exercise into miles.

And we want our service users across Cumbria to join in! Free T-shirts, certificates and medals for those taking part!

So how does it work?

Round the World Challenge is all about turning hours of fun physical activities and sports into a round the world adventure. Choose from three different routes, log activity hours and receive regular rewards throughout.

It is aimed at people with a learning disability aged 16 and over to take part and choose fun physical activities that will make up your journey.

There are three different routes:

1: UK = Hours required 20
2: EUROPE = Hours required 40
3: WORLD = Hours required 100.

You choose which route to do. You could even do a combination of two or three routes. And any physical activity counts towards the challenge - from football to dancing, walking to boccia, yoga to jogging. You can track your progress on the Mencap online portal and you can follow your progress on the interactive map!

Here at Carlisle Mencap we are planning a series of activities for our service users throughout 2021. These will include Zoom meetings involving our new series of Keep Fit Exercise videos produced recently by our Independence Studio; Walking Groups; Cycling at Watchtree; Gym sessions at Carlisle Youth Zone; Geocaching (in which participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches") and much more!

And remember - if you take part you get a FREE T-shirt and medals and certificates will be awarded during the challenge.

Early in January we will be giving your more details about the Round The World Challenge and our programme of events to help you meet your miles target, but if you would like to know more now and/or you would like to sign up for the challenge, contact DANIEL CAMPBELL or REBECCA CAREY at the Grace Little Centre on 01228 672980.

And keep an eye on our Facebook page, Twitter account and this website for updates.

Finally - good luck!

THANK YOU for your support ...
