Carlisle Mencap Give A Day!
CARLISLE Mencap have been doing their bit along with other organisations, groups and businesses across the city by taking part in the annual Give A Day To The City initiative.
The charity's team took part in the project to revamp Portland Square gardens off Warwick Road in Carlisle. In the past, Carlisle Mencap has benefitted from Give A Day projects so this was our way of saying thanks by rolling up our sleeves and mucking in!
So what is Give A Day To The City? Well, their website puts it like this: 'Give a Day to the City here in Carlisle is all about whatever is in your hand, whatever you are passionate about, then give it away for the benefit of another. It could be on your own, or with a team from your school, workplace or neighbourhood. Whether you give an hour, a day, or a week, donate blood, give food, renovate a garden, host a party, build a playground, help a neighbour, give financially, everyone can do something!'
Last year during Give A Day To The City Week, staff from Carlisle College on one day and then Trinity School sixth-formers the next went to the charity’s Grace Little Centre for children in north Carlisle to help tidy up the garden at the facility, doing a host of jobs from weeding to sprucing up the patio, planting flowers to painting garden furniture.
This coming Friday, July 5, once again Carlisle College staff will be ‘giving a day’ to Carlisle Mencap, this time working in the garden of the recently revamped and extended California House centre for adults in California Road, Kingstown, dredging the pond and painting the fence around the garden, as well as generally tidying up the outside area in preparation for the grand reopening of the refurbished facility on Friday, July 12.
Carlisle Mencap would like to thank the teams of Carlisle College staff that have chosen Carlisle Mencap projects during Give A Day To The City weeks.
